Jakubowski to lead Barrington girls volleyball program

Barrington High School has announced Michelle Jakubowski as its next girls volleyball head coach.

Jakubowski had most recently been athletic director at Huntley High School, serving in that capacity since 2012.

Barrington athletic directory Mike Obsuszt said in a statement that Jakubowski is an experienced coach whose "enthusiasm and passion for the game are perfect fits for the education-based athletic programs at Barrington High School."

Jakubowski succeeds Rob Ridenour, who had been leading both the boys and girls varsity volleyball teams since 2011. Ridenour, who coached the Broncos to a Mid-Suburban League championship this spring, has decided to focus only on the boys team in the upcoming school year.

As a volleyball coach, Jakubowski's Huntley teams were 149-75 over six seasons (2006-2012) and won three Class 4A regional titles. Prior to Huntley, Jakubowski coached at Lake Zurich (2000-2006) and Winnebago (1996-2000), giving her more than 350 career victories.

"Michelle will do a great job leading our girls volleyball program," Obsuszt said in a release. "Most importantly though, she will continue to ensure we run a high-quality, education-based approach to the game."

"I am very excited to become part of the tradition at Barrington High School," said Jakubowski. "I look forward to working with the students to help them become more successful in the classroom, on the court and to help them be better prepared for life after high school."

• Barrington also has announced Dave Udchik as wrestling head coach, Tom Root as boys cross country head coach and Christina Varey as competitive dance head coach.
