Nerheim honored:

The Illinois State Crime Commission has named Lake County State's Attorney Michael Nerheim as the 2014 State's Attorney of the Year for what it said was his significant contributions and efforts in promoting positive interaction between law enforcement and the community. The commission cited Nerheim's "achievements and service to many professional and civic organizations." Nerheim said he was "deeply honored and humbled" to have been selected, adding he is "committed to working collaboratively to keep our community safe." In his first year in office, Nerheim established a Citizens Advisory Panel serving as a liaison between his office and the citizens of Lake County, the Case Review Panel to focus on the issue of wrongful convictions, and co-founded the Lake County Opioid Initiative, a collaborative countywide effort to combat opioid addiction and overdose. Nerheim received the award during a June 18 ceremony.
