Gurnee man, 76, charged with child porn possession
A 76-year-old Gurnee man has been charged with possessing child pornography, police said.
Police announced Friday that Ronald J. Wendt, of the 4100 block of Stoney Island Avenue, remained in the Lake County jail in lieu of 10 percent of a $500,000 bond set by a judge. He was charged with five counts of child pornography possession.
Gurnee authorities said a search warrant was executed at Wendt's home Friday on suspicion online child porn images were being uploaded from a computer there. Wendt was taken into custody after an unspecified number of child pornography images were recovered at the house, according to police.
Police said Wendt was under investigation for several weeks before the warrant was authorized by a Lake County circuit court judge. Investigators are continuing to work the case.
On Thursday, Lindenhurst police and the Illinois attorney general's office announced a 55-year-old man was charged with child porn possession.
Mark Galer of Lindenhurst was charged with reproduction of child pornography and possession of child pornography. Authorities said Galer, who was in the Lake County jail on a $250,000 bond, was seized as part of an effort targeting those who download and trade child porn online.
