Boomers win rain-shortened game

The host Schaumburg Boomers claimed the rubber match with the River City Rascals by posting a 1-0, five-inning rain shortened victory Thursday night.

The only run of the contest scored in the bottom of the first inning. The first three batters of the game reached against River City starter Trey Lambert, who was making his professional debut. Jordan Dean led off the game with a single and Alexi Colon followed with a walk. After a double steal, Tyler Sciacca was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Dean came around to score the lone tally on a double play ball. Danny Jimenez earned the win, working five innings and allowing just three hits. The shutout is the second in a row for the Boomers and fifth of the season, most in the league. Schaumburg posted five shutouts last season.

The Windy City ThunderBolts visit Boomers Stadium on Friday. The Boomers (17-13) will send RHP Cal Bowling (3-3, 4.20) to the mound against LHP Josh Spence (Season Debut) in the 6:30 p.m. contest.
