Naperville library board member reappointed

Kay Severinsen has been reappointed to the Naperville Public Library board by a 7-1 vote of the Naperville City Council.

The reappointment was delayed two weeks while Naperville's legal department reviewed whether any potential conflicts of interest might arise because Severinsen is married to council member Joseph McElroy.

City attorneys found there is no direct conflict of interest and the city code does not prohibit a council member's spouse from being appointed to a volunteer position on a committee or commission.

McElroy excused himself from the vote and only council member Doug Krause voted against Severinsen's reappointment to a three-year term.
