Witness a natural light show during the Firefly Fandango

The Schaumburg Park District's Spring Valley Nature Center will offer families a special opportunity to enjoy and learn about the natural summer light show provided by fireflies.

Spring Valley's prairies and woodlands provide some of the best firefly viewing in the area. The light show will be offered from 8:45-9:45 p.m., June 28 at Spring Valley Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road.

"This is a great family event for those that grew up seeing fireflies to bring their kids out and share the same experience," said Dave Brooks, manager of conservation at Spring Valley. "Fireflies are such a magical part of summer in the Midwest and we're so lucky to get to see them. This isn't like seeing them in your backyard."

Families will learn how and why fireflies produce their glow, and enjoy a twilight wagon ride to view the incredible display.

Cost is $12 for resident families and $16 for non-resident families. Pre-registration is encouraged but not required. Walk-in registration cost is $16 per family for residents and non-residents.
