Elk Grove Rotaryfest volunteer charged with theft

An Elk Grove Village woman faces theft charges after authorities say she pocketed $1,690 while working as a Rotaryfest volunteer last week.

Cynthia Conoboy, 51, sold beer tickets from June 11 to 13, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Gbenga Longe. After festival organizers noticed shortages, they questioned her, at which point she showed them the money in her purse, Longe said.

Conoboy, who has no criminal background, was released from custody on her own recognizance.

She next appears in court on July 24.
