Glen Ellyn Lions celebrate 90 years

The Glen Ellyn Lions Club celebrated its 90th anniversary May 23 with a dinner reception at Reserve 22 Restaurant at the Village Links Golf Course in Glen Ellyn.

The guest of honor was Lions International President Barry J. Palmer, who hails from Australia.

Palmer congratulated the Glen Ellyn Lions on their past 90 years of service to their community and wished them luck for the many years of service that lie ahead.

The evening's highlight was Palmer presenting this year's Melvin Jones Fellowship Award to Glen Ellyn Lion Randy Poole.

Palmer also inducted two new Glen Ellyn Lions members, Marty Detmer and Rachel Wincenciak.

Many past presidents of the Glen Ellyn Lions Club were present, sharing their stories of club lore and history.

"It has been a great experience and honor to lead the Glen Ellyn Lions Club through their 90th year," Glen Ellyn Lions Club President Al Buttimer said.

The Glen Ellyn Lions Club's main mission is to serve those with visual and hearing impairments, but they also provide service to many organizations and residents of Glen Ellyn. The club's next big event is the 45th annual Glen Ellyn Festival of the Arts Aug. 23-24 at Lake Ellyn Park.
