Suspect charged in case involving exonerated man
CHICAGO - A second man has been charged in the death of a Chicago man whose stabbed and bullet-riddled body was found in a South Side alley in October.
Derrick Hilliard was charged Friday with first-degree murder in 19-year-old Jamal Harmon's death.
Also charged in Harmon's death was a Chicago man who served 32 years in prison before DNA evidence overturned his conviction in the 1980 rape and murder of a 3-year-old girl. Andre Davis has been ordered held without bond.
Prosecutors say the 19-year-old Harmon got into a dispute with Davis' nephew over money lost in a dice game. Assistant State's Attorney Robert Mack said the nephew shot and wounded Harmon, and that Davis later cut the man's throat and dumped his body in an alley.
