Quinn's running mate calls Rauner's plan a 'joke'
Gov. Pat Quinn's running mate, Paul Vallas, says Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner's plan to cut spending is a "joke."
Vallas is a former Chicago Public Schools CEO. He held a news conference Friday to address Rauner's proposals. The Winnetka businessman is seeking public office for the first time. He claims his ideas will save more than $800 million. They include merging the comptroller's and treasurer's office.
Quinn's campaign has amped up its response over the plan, issuing several emails. They claim the ideas lack specificity and are "lesser versions" of Quinn's efforts. Rauner's campaign says Quinn is rejecting ways to cut wasteful spending and the ideas resonate with Illinoisans.
Quinn seeks a second full term. The matchup is expected to be among the most competitive gubernatorial races nationwide.
