Reel life: Catch special 'Friday the 13th' screaming, er, screening

Film critics notebook:

• In my hometown of downstate Charleston, the local Will Rogers Theater would often run a special bill of horror movies on Friday the 13th. So, I was pleasantly surprised to read that Naperville's Ogden 6 Theatre, at 1227 E. Ogden Ave., has revived that tradition by offering the classic horror film “Friday the 13th” at 10 p.m. on Friday, June 13, for $5 a ticket.

I was not a fan of Sean S. Cunningham's maniac slasher thriller when it came out in 1980. Amazingly, it proved to be the most influential motion picture of the 1980s decade, inspiring a kajillion cheap imitators. Even Hollywood blockbusters such as “Fatal Attraction” and Walt Disney's “The Little Mermaid” referenced it.

The body count in “Friday the 13th” includes a very young Kevin Bacon in his fourth movie. Go to classiccinemas.com.
