The Cubs did not waste any time in getting first-round draft pick Kyle Schwarber into their organization.
Schwarber, the fourth overall selection in last week's MLB draft, has signed a minor league contract, team officials announced Wednesday.
While terms of the deal were not disclosed, the catcher will join the Cubs' Class A affiliate in Boise for the second half of their season on Friday.
At Indiana University, Schwarber he batted .341, with 40 home runs and 149 RBI in three seasons. In his final season with the Hoosiers, Schwarber hit .358 with 14 home runs and 48 RBI and was named as a finalst for the Johnny Bench Award, which is awarded to the top catcher in Division I.
