Mt. Prospect holds fire, police fundraiser

Mount Prospect police and fire departments will team with Oberweis Ice Cream and Dairy Store, 80 E. Northwest Hwy., on Monday, June 16, to raise funds for public safety education and activities. Oberweis customers who present a coupon at the store will have up to 30 percent of their purchases e donated by Oberweis. To print a coupon, go to the village's website: mountprospect.org.

The fundraiser will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Police officers and firefighters will scoop ice cream for customers while talking about 911 calls from 4 p.m. on.

"The 911 phone number is no longer just for emergencies," says Crime Prevention Officer Greg Sill. "Use 911 calls for all police, fire, and paramedic service calls."

The fire and police departments have each created a Safety Sundae that comes with a chance to win a fire or police T-shirt. Representatives from the 911 dispatch center will be there to speak about their service and give customers a spin on a prize wheel.

New York Life Insurance Co. representatives will produce free child IDs: a laminated card with the child's photo, fingerprints and ID information.

A fire truck and police squad car will be on display at 6:30 p.m.
