Challenges to Wisconsin candidates to be heard

MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin elections board is scheduled to consider challenges to nomination papers filed by 17 candidates seeking to be on the ballot, including four incumbents.

The Government Accountability Board planned to consider the challenges Tuesday as it met to certify candidates for the Aug. 12 primary ballot.

The incumbents facing challenges to their nomination papers are Democratic state Reps. Mandela Barnes and JoCasta Zamarripa, both of Milwaukee, and Republican Kathy Bernier, of Lake Hallie. Republican state Sen. Frank Lasee is the only incumbent senator facing a challenge.

State Rep. Brett Hulsey also faces challenges that could knock him off the ballot as he seeks to take on Mary Burke for the Democratic Party nomination.
