Take a walk in downtown St. Charles and Geneva and you will see a lot of purple.
The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life of Tri-Cities is right around the corner on Friday, June 13. The volunteer committee is "Painting the Towns" purple to raise awareness of the local, family-friendly, cancer-fighting event held at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark in Geneva.
Relay For Life is a 12-hour overnight fundraising event that symbolizes how cancer never sleeps. Teams of friends, family and co-workers camp out and take turns walking a track in an effort to raise awareness and funds in the fight against cancer.
Participants fundraise through Relay For Life websites, team fundraisers, sponsorships and on-site fundraisers.
At the event, the luminaria and survivor ceremonies offer time to remember those we have lost and celebrate those who have won the battle, while the Fight Back Ceremony gives everyone a chance to make a personal commitment to take action against cancer throughout the year. The event is open to the public and loaded with live music, competitions, food, fireworks and fun.
If you are interested in starting a team, registering for the survivor dinner, or viewing the full entertainment schedule, visit www.RelayForLife.org/Tricitiesil. If you're not able to join a team, simply log on to make a donation and or stop by the event to see what it's all about.
