Melrose Park man identified as Pistakee Lake drowning victim

A 49-year-old man from Melrose Park was identified as the swimmer who died Sunday in Pistakee Lake near Johnsburg, authorities said.

McHenry County Coroner Anne Majewski said toxicology reports are pending on William L. Trybula, who drowned about 3:30 p.m. in unincorporated McHenry County.

Trybula disappeared under the surface of the water after he and his friends were separated while swimming, authorities said.

The victim and two other men were boating on rough water and high winds when Trybula and another man decided to jump into the water for a swim, authorities said. The boat was not anchored and drifted, authorities said.

When the third man who remained on the boat was unable to start the motor, the two swimmers tried to return to the boat, authorities said. Only one of swimmers made it back.

About 20 divers were searching the area when Trybula was located about 100 yards off shore, authorities said. The victim was pulled out of the water and taken to Centegra Hospital in McHenry, but he was pronounced dead at 5:05 p.m.
