Crash on Tri-State injures 8

A two-car crash sent eight people to hospitals and tied up rush hour traffic early Tuesday evening on the Tri-State Tollway in Des Plaines, authorities said.

Emergency crews were dispatched at 5:50 p.m. to the northbound right shoulder just south of the Dempster Street exit. The two right lanes of the tollway were shut down to provide a safe work area for the first responders, according to Des Plaines Fire Chief Alan Wax.

All eight patients had minor injuries. They were transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, Northwest Community Hospital and Glenbrook Hospital.

Crews left the scene at 7 p.m.
