Canapalooza Project Completed by One Church Junior High Students

Grace Lutheran Church in Glen Ellyn was the site of the Canapalooza Project created by the Grace Junior High Sunday School class and sponsored by OneChurch, a group of churches in Glen Ellyn working together in service and ministry. OneChurch includes Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Grace Lutheran Church, St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. Mark's Episcopal Church and St. Petronille Catholic Church. Joining these six churches in their Canapalooza Project was the Glen Ellyn Public Library youth department who formed a team and collected food donations. Trader Joe's gave permission fo the junior high youth to collect donations in front of their store and the store donated canned goods and paper bags. Three sculptures were built by the OneChurch youth, an igloo, a cupcake and a family of penguins. The collection totaled 1,120 cans and it took the teams six hours to build the sculptures. The Glen Ellyn Food Pantry volunteers helped build the giant cupcake made out of cans as their construction effort. After the full-sized igloo, giant cupcake and penguin families were built, the canned goods were all donated to the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry located at Grace Church, 493 Forest Avenue in downtown Glen Ellyn.
