Rough third inning costly to Boomers

O'FALLON, Mo. — The Schaumburg Boomers let a big inning affect the outcome for the third consecutive contest, dropping a 6-4 road decision to the River City Rascals.

For the second consecutive night Alexi Colon tallied a one-out homer to open the scoring.

River City's Evan Crawford tied the game with a homer in the second. The Rascals touched starter Seth Webster for 4 runs on 5 hits in the third to take control.

Schaumburg slowly chipped away. Denver Chavez notched an RBI single in the fifth and Sean Mahley posted an RBI single in the seventh to bring the Boomers within 5-3. Following an insurance tally by River City in the eighth, Brian McConkey homered in the ninth with two outs to account for the final. Webster tossed a season high six innings in the loss. The Boomers managed six hits with two each from McConkey and Colon.

The brief road trip concludes on Sunday night at 5:05 p.m. The Boomers will piggyback LHP Rey Rodriguez (1-0, 2.70) and RHP Cal Bowling (2-1, 3.50) opposite River City ace RHP Dane Stone (2-0, 0.56).
