Police search for 2 after shots fired at Indiana troopers

INDIANAPOLIS - Dozens of police officers searched for hours for two men after authorities say shots were fired at two state troopers following a suspicious car in an Indianapolis apartment complex where gunfire had been reported.

State police say the troopers weren't hit by the rifle shots fired by a passenger in the car late Thursday. Police say the troopers in an unmarked vehicle then chased the car until it soon crashed on the city's far east side.

The driver and passenger ran away from the car and officers closed off some streets until about 4 a.m. Friday as they used dogs and a helicopter in searching for the men. Police say one person of interest was apprehended, and a rifle was found abandoned nearby.

No injuries from the shootings were reported.
