Horizon teacher nominated by Bartlett VFW for award

Horizon Elementary School, Hanover Park, sixth-grade teacher Ginger Olson was selected by Bartlett VFW Post 11018 for nomination for the prestigious Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Award.

Olson's nomination will move on to the VFW District 19 level for possible consideration as the VFW nominee at the State and National levels. She was nominated by Horizon Principal Dr. Deborah Gehrig.

"Ginger was nominated for the award because she is dedicated to instructing students on the value and importance of good citizenship," Dr. Gehrig said.

"Ms. Olson has been a student council adviser. Through her leadership, student council members have taken an active role in supporting volunteerism at Horizon School."

Dr. Gehrig said Olson is also one of the school's Safety Patrol advisers and models good citizenship at Horizon.
