St. Charles Episcopal to host a 'Mission to the Mountains' dinner

Have you ever heard of high school students who ask to keep working after putting in a long day? That's what happens on St. Charles Episcopal's Senior High Mission trips to Kentucky.

Each year, high school students travel to Eastern Kentucky to participate in "Mission in the Mountains," a program that aids people in need by building and repairing homes.

This year, seven high school students from St. Charles Episcopal Church will travel to Kentucky from Monday, June 9, through Saturday, June 14.

To raise money for the mission, the high school ministry group will host a dinner, silent auction, and live auction starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at the church, 994 N. Fifth Ave., St. Charles.

A portion of the funds will also benefit the church's ministries for the homeless at Hesed House and the Sandwich Board, both located in Aurora.

Items up for auction include a signed football from Robbie Gould of the Chicago Bears; a four-course gourmet meal prepared by Chef Mike Zema; a week at a luxury vacation condo in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; original artwork from Artist-in-Residence Ed Manning; a Chamberlain Garage Power Station that does everything but wash your car; a pet-themed basket with special treats and aqua-fitness at The Puddle for your dog; a spa-themed basket with gift certificates for nail services and beauty items; and chili made by the winner of St. Charles Episcopal's first Chili Cook-off, Rob Ulaszek.

Smaller items such as restaurant gift certificates, home-baked treats, garage door remotes, and services like baby-sitting and dog-sitting will be available to bid on at the silent auction.

Tickets to the event are $10 per person and are on sale now through June 1. For tickets, call the church at (630) 584-2596.

The church offers three Sunday morning services. The building is wheelchair-accessible. For more information, visit stcharlesepiscopal.org.
