Winners of Berkley-Pendell piano competition announced

The Berkley-Pendell Scholarship Competition is sponsored by four local associations of the Illinois State Music Teachers Association: Naperville, Salt Creek, Waubonsie Valley, and West Suburban.

The piano competition, founded in 1986 by Helen Berkley of Winfield and Verona Pendell of West Chicago, was established to encourage and promote the cause of great music and to foster emerging pianistic artistry and excellence.

The competition is divided into Junior and Senior Track I and II divisions, and Elementary Track I and II divisions.

Auditions were held Sunday, April 27, in Wentz Hall and Koten Chapel at North Central College in Naperville.

A Winners Concert followed on Friday, May 2, at Gary Memorial United Methodist Church in Wheaton.

Congratulations to the Winners: Senior Division - first place: Grace Ng of Naperville; Senior Division - second place: Amber Leston of DeKalb; Junior Division Track 1 - first place: Allen Gu of Naperville; Junior Division Track 2 - first place: Brian Tong of Naperville; Junior Division Track 2 - second place: Jonathan Li of Batavia; Elementary Division Track 1 - first place: Adeline Meyers of Geneva; Elementary Division Track 1 - second place: Taylor Shi of Naperville; Elementary Division Track 2 - first place co-winner: Emily Chan of Westmont; Elementary Division Track 2 - first place co-winner: Benjamin Yang of Springfield.

The Berkley-Pendell Scholarship Competition is held annually. Monetary prizes are awarded to winners.
