Palatine Library's Summer Reading Program begins June 1

Fetch your books and fun at the Palatine Library from noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, for the "PAWS to READ" summer reading Kickoff Day.

The library has an exciting itinerary of activities including crafts, a visit from Biscuit (the puppy from children's books by Alyssa Satin Capucilli), face painting, Bingo, and a professional photo booth. Bring the whole family to enjoy the "PAWS to READ" themed decorations and celebrate the start of the Summer Reading Program.

Enjoy the entertainment of magician, juggler, and storyteller Bob Kann as he delights the whole family with a show from 1-1:45 p.m. Tickets are available to valid district cardholders.

All readers, ages 2 through adult, are invited to join the Summer Reading Program. Sign up is easy. District cardholders can visit www.palatinelibrary.org and manage their own reading progress, or come to any library location and staff can sign you up and log you progress.

The program begins Sunday, June 1 and ends on Friday, Aug. 15. Bookmobile sign up is subject to its summer schedule.

Every week, you will have a chance to win a prize from the random PAWS drawing - just for participating. It pays to sign up early, so you have more chances to win.

Upon finishing the program, participants will receive a grand prize T-shirt, generously donated by the Friends of the Palatine Public Library. Claim your T-shirt through Friday, Aug. 15, and proudly wear it around town.

Earn a movie theater gift card for getting your whole household to finish the summer reading program. When a household of two or more members completes the program, bring the whole group to the main library, wearing your "Paws to Read" T-shirts, and staff will take your picture, and display it online. Claim your gift card by Friday, Aug. 22.

Throughout the summer you can earn souvenir buttons by attending programs, telling the library about a book you've read or participating in other fun activities.
