Barges, Elk Grove power past Elgin

Senior Brooke Barges belted 2 home runs and junior teammate Aleece Duffy had one as Elk Grove powered its way into Saturday's championship game of the St. Charles East Class 4A regional softball championship with a 13-2 victory over No. 11 Elgin in five innings.

Hall of Fame coach Ken Grams' Grenadiers, seeded No. 6, will face No. 3 St. Charles East at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Barges (2-for-3), Brianna Leach (3-for-3), Marjorie Sloan (2-for-3), Duffy (2-for-3) and Sarah Pauscher (2-for-3) were multiple hitter for the Grens (29-7), who also received a double from Duffy.

Senior Megan Eul went all five innings to pick up the win and improve to 19-6.

at Rolling Meadows: No. 9 Willowbrook edged No. 8 Fremd 9-8 in the Class 4A regional semifinal. The Vikings finished their season 21-10.

at Carmel: No. 2 Libertyville top No. 14 Hersey 10-3 in the Class 4A regional semifinal as the Huskies finish their season at 10-22-1.

at New Trier: Top-seeded New Trier (28-4-1) blanked No. 17 Palatine 10-0 in six innings as the Pirates finished their season at 10-25.

at Evanston: No. 8 Maine South edged No. 9 Maine West 9-8 in the Class 4A reginal semifinal. The Warriors finished their season at 14-14.
