Delays reported after derailment on Metra BNSF line

An overnight train derailment near Aurora is causing minor delays on Metra's Burlington Northern Santa Fe Line, authorities said.

Michael Gillis, spokesman for Metra, said the last BNSF inbound train of the evening derailed after it left the Aurora train station at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

He said no one was injured after one of the locomotives and a single passenger car derailed. He said a handful of people on the train were transferred to another train and sent on their way.

He said work continues on the track where the derailment took place. The area between Aurora and Eola Road is down to one track and resulting in 10 minute delays.
