Barrington District 220 naming new superintendent Thursday

Barrington School District 220 is expected to announce its next superintendent Thursday morning at a special meeting of its board of education.

The new superintendent, whose name has not yet been disclosed, will not be at the meeting. But an email from the district states the new hire will be attending several district events on Friday, including a breakfast for graduating seniors, and later gatherings with school staff and community leaders.

In April, current Superintendent Tom Leonard announced he would resign June 30 to take a superintendent's post with the Eanes Independent School District in the suburbs of Austin, Texas.

The board of education began meeting with candidates, both in person and via video conference, in closed door meetings soon after Leonard's announcement.

Board President Brian Battle told the Daily Herald then that the board's self-imposed deadline to name Leonard's successor was the end of the school year.

District 220 educates about 9,000 students at one high school, two middle schools, eight elementary schools and an early childhood center.
