Music notes: Vampire Weekend plays UIC Pavilion June 5
Classic pop gems
Fans of 1960s pop will no doubt already be in line to see Herman's Hermits starring Peter Noone, playing in St. Charles this weekend. Original lead singer Noone leads this incarnation of the beloved British Invasion band. (A different version is led by longtime drummer Barry Whitwam.) 8 p.m. Friday, May 30, at the Arcada Theatre, 105 E. Main St., St. Charles. Tickets start at $49. Go to oshows.com.
Country superstar
Brad Paisley is one of the most popular entertainers on the country scene. His tour, which brings him to the suburbs this weekend, will most likely include tunes from his upcoming (and as of yet untitled) album, which is due in August. 7 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre, 19100 S. Ridgeland, Tinley Park. Tickets start at $24.50. Go to livenation.com.
Weekend, next week
Grammy-winning rock band Vampire Weekend will make a stop next week at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago. Vampire Weekend is one of those rare acts that maintains its ever-important “indie cred” even while moving into an arena-rock setting. (The Black Keys and Arcade Fire are other bands to have accomplished this delicate balancing act.) The band's 2013 album, “Modern Vampires of the City,” earned strong reviews and nabbed the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album. 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 5, at the UIC Pavilion, 525 S. Racine Ave., Chicago. $39.50. Go to ticketmaster.com.
