Lisle's Omioke advances to finals

Edoise Omioke is looking to cash in on Andrea Norris' anniversary of the last Lisle state sprint champion.

Ten years after Norris captured the Class A 100-meter dash at the girls state track and field meet, the freshman qualified for the Class 1A finals Thursday with her heat-winning time of 12.45 seconds.

Omioke came back to earn a second finals berth in the 400 with a time of 59.62 but fell short for a third appearance at 200 meters. Omioke will run in the state championship in both events Saturday at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.

"It was the motivation to see the competition," the Nigeria native said. "(The 100 time) is the fastest I have run. I was really happy about that."

"(Omioke) was very determined and focused," Lisle coach Kristin Mullin said. "By the time she came to the 200, she was exhausted."

Class 2A and 3A preliminaries begin Friday morning, with all three classes concluding on Saturday afternoon.
