Behind the scenes at Barefoot Bay:

The Mundelein Park & Recreation District hosts a free open house at its Barefoot Bay Family Aquatic Center, 1461 N. Midlothian Road, from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 23. Free kids' activities, such as face painting and chalk drawing, and refreshments will be offered during the behind-the-scenes look. Visitors will learn facts about the nautical-themed park, and mascot "Leroy the Lobster" will be on hand to meet and have photos taken with guests. Park district and lifeguard staff also will be on hand. All ages are invited to the dry, non-swimming event. The facility will be open Saturday, May 24, but closed from May 27 to May 30, and will reopen for the season May 31.
