Arlington Heights Park District to allow grilling

The Arlington Heights Park District will allow grilling in designated areas of nine parks this summer, officials announced this week.

"The grilling areas were enhanced and improved to make sure people have more options," park district Superintendent of Marketing and Communications Anita Pacheco said.

The designated areas will include receptacles for charcoal, she added.

The locations hosting the new grilling options are Camelot Park, Centennial Park, Frontier Park, Hickory Meadows, Lake Arlington, Patriots Park, Pioneer Park, Recreation Park and Sunset Meadows, according to a news release.

Grilling will be allowed in the parks from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. from May 1 through Nov. 1.

Reservations and a park permit are required to grill, which can be obtained through the park district's website. Users must also supply their own grill or necessary supplies.

Pacheco said that safety must be a priority for users, who are required to follow procedures such as extinguishing, cooling and disposing of grill contents in the provided bins.

"With people being allowed to grill, you have to make sure they're doing it responsibly," Pacheco said.
