Reward offered in stolen assault rifle case

Authorities say a $10,000 reward is available for information in the theft of 13 semiautomatic assault rifles stolen from a freight train container at a Chicago rail yard.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Chicago police and the National Shooting Sports Foundation announced the reward Tuesday. The money will go for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the thefts. The ATF is offering $5,000 and the shooting foundation is offering a $5,000 match. Authorities said the Smith & Wesson M&P Sport Rifles were taken from a Norfolk Southern freight container sometime from May 4 to May 6. Authorities said the weapons were being shipped to a licensed gun dealer in Minnesota.
