Oakton sends off graduates

Oakton Community College held its 43rd annual commencement ceremony on Tuesday night in Des Plaines.

More than 1,000 students received degrees and certificates from the college. Oakton alumna Kristina Alcozer Garcia, the coordinator of student leadership at Northeastern Illinois University, was slated to give the commencement address.

The college conferred its Distinguished Alumnus Award on Timothy J. Panfil, a resident of Des Plaines who earned associate's degrees in pre-engineering and electronics and computer technology in 1988 and 1989, respectively. Panfil is director of enrollment management at Elmhurst College's School for Professional Studies.
