By getting some help and also helping themselves, the Grant Bulldogs now sit alone in first place in the North Suburban Prairie baseball race.

Grant defeated Vernon Hills Monday 4-1, thanks to a 2-RBI single by Tino Torres. A Lakes loss to Antioch also helped Grant's cause.

The Bulldogs took advantage of 6 walks and a hit batter to score their 4 runs on only 1 hit. They also got a solid effort on the mound out of Andrew Stone, who went 7 innings and did not allow an earned run.

Tommy Earhart drove in the only run for Vernon Hills.

Antioch 4, Lakes 3: Nick Muskat had 2 hits and drove in a run to lead Antioch to a North Suburban Conference Prairie Division win. Pitcher Alex Stava was solid on the mound in getting the victory. He finished with 7 strikeouts and no walks. For Lakes, Joe Dahlke smacked a home run. Dahlke, Bryan Gross and Joe Sisk each had 2 hits. Lakes is now 16-11 overall and 8-3 in the Prairie.

Mundelein 11, Lake Zurich 5: Reese Dolan hit a home run while Luke Peterson, Ryan Hollander and JT Michalski each doubled to lead the Mustangs to another win. Mundelein is now 28-2 on the season and 9-2 in the North Suburban Lake Division. Pitcher Austin Blackmer got the win, striking out 3 batters in two innings.

For Lake Zurich, Nick Jones had 3 hits, including a double.

Libertyville 6, Zion-Benton 2: Conor Simpson had 3 hits, Mitch Townsend drove in 3 runs and Adam Formento added 2 hits and 2 RBI to lead Libertyville to a win.

Carmel 6, St. Viator 4: Ian Kristan and Cal Coughlin each had 2 hits to lead Carmel to the win. Kristan also drove in 2 runs. Pitcher Quentin Sefcik got the win. He went six innings and rolled up 5 strikeouts.

Grayslake North 12, Cyrstal Lake Central 10: Sophomore Bobby Krebs went 2-for-3 and drove in 5 runs to lead Grayslake North. Krebs had 2 doubles. Merrick Gentile and Alex Alvarez each had 3 hits for the Knights, who are 12-17 on the season.

Grayslake Central 12, Woodstock North 5: Grayslake Central pounded out 13 hits to get its seventh win in a row and its 13th in the last 14 games. Pat Burba had a triple, double and a single to pace the Rams. Justin Dooley and Mike Stone added a triple and Freddie Landers and Kyle Clark both doubled. Matt Loeffl drove in 3 runs. Pitcher Russ Lundius got his seventh victory of the season.
