HMS MathCounts Team Ranks 12th in State

The Highland Middle School MathCounts team won 12th place in the state this spring in a field of 60 schools.

MathCounts Coach and HMS math teacher Deb Morales said the team did well in state, after nabbing second place in the Chapter competition held locally earlier this year.

The state team included Jesse Yan, Lewis Wang, Andy Liu and Bert Cao with Aaron Chen as an alternate, Morales said. Andy Liu placed 16th in the individual competition. He competed in a sweet-16 countdown round.

Other students who competed in the competition as individuals were Daniel Kaputa, Kelly Xu, Aaron Chen, Charlie Stahnke, Jeff Chung, and Alex Lu.

"This was a great year," Morales added. "I was proud of all my mathletes and look forward to next year."
