Cruise nights begin this Saturday night in Mount Prospect
Blues Mobile Cruise Nights in downtown Mount Prospect launch for a new summer season on Saturday, May 17.
There is much to see and do on cruise nights, which continue 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturdays through Sept. 27 in the Metra parking lot near the intersection of Route 83 and Northwest Highway.
The events are organized and run by members of the Mount Prospect Downtown Merchants Association. Chris Gordon and Chad Busse are co-chairs of the event in 2014.
"Each night is a classic car theme, a live band, music DJ or local radio station street team like The Drive 97.1, or WLS FM-94.7, or WJMK 104.3 K-Hits Chicago, plus over 100 fantastic cars so you will never miss a good time and a great show," said Busse of Busse Automotive.
"The weekly theme portion of the calendar is designed to get car enthusiasts who own classic or vintage cars to come to the show and discover unique enthusiasm for their make, model or year. It's an auto collector, restorer and owner's paradise, but it is also a massive social network," Busse said.
"We have car clubs, we have fellowship, we facilitate meetings and dates between car owners. We even had a proposal of marriage last summer," Busse said.
"We never forget that Mount Prospect was where Elwood Blues purchased a used Mount Prospect police car in the fictionalized movie cult classic, 'The Blues Brothers,'" Busse said.
