Baseball/DuPage County roundup Wednesday, May 14

St. Francis 4, Montini 3:

The Spartans (18-8, 10-3) trailed 3-2 in the Suburban Christian Conference showdown until they rallied with 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth. Winning pitcher Jason Sullivan went 2-for-4 while Zach Prociuk also had 2 hits and Jake Radel had 2 RBI. Ryan Hodgett pitched a scoreless seventh to pick up the save. Jake Pestel went 3-for-4 and Rhett Wojkovich went 2-for-3 for Montini (18-5, 12-3).

Glenbard North 3, WW South 2:

Eric Orze, who went 3-for-3, singled home the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth for the Panthers (16-10, 10-6) in their DuPage Valley Conference victory. Matt Albin and Luke Greenberg combined on the mound. Nolan Jasinski went 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored. Brian Summers scored a run and drove in a run for WW South (12-9, 10-6).

Glenbard East 3, Lake Park 2:

The Rams (13-15, 6-10) rallied with 2 runs in the top of the seventh to pull out the DuPage Valley Conference victory. Tommy Mogavero singled home the tying run and Tyler Behrendt doubled in the go-ahead run. Anthony Esterly was the complete-game winning pitcher. Colin Fowich and Kenny Schutz drove in runs for Lake Park (10-15, 6-10).

West Chicago 5, East Aurora 0:

The Wildcats (12-14, 7-12) swept in the Upstate Eight Conference behind a 10-hit attack led by Ryan Koester's 3-for-3 effort with a double and 2 RBI. Dave Kordik and Grant Hosticka went 2-for-3. Peyton Seidler's 3 hitless innings on the mound earned him the win.

Naperville North 5, West Aurora 0:

Luke Brennan fired a 2-hitter with 3 strikeouts and a walk for the Huskies (11-14, 6-10) in the DuPage Valley Conference victory. Ryan Krainz and Sam Siebers had 2 hits apiece.

Benet 5, Marian Catholic 4:

The Redwings (17-8, 8-4) scored all their runs in the bottom of the fifth and held on late for the East Suburban Catholic Conference sweep. Anthony Rendina and Jon Kruppe went 2-for-3 while Jason Blohm drove in 2 runs. Mike Powers picked up the win while Dan Minik earned the save.

Addison Trail 11, Proviso East 1:

A 7-run bottom of the fourth inning helped the Blazers (9-17, 7-11) sweep in the West Suburban Gold. Winning pitcher Zack Dowz struck out eight in a 5-inning 2-hitter. Christian Grabowski went 2-for-2 with an RBI.

South Elgin 1, Metea Valley 0:

Max Custer was strong for 9 innings on the mound, but the Mustangs (16-10, 12-7) fell in the Upstate Eight Conference. Sam Hanson went 2-for-3.

Illiana Christian 2, Glenbard South 1:

The Raiders (17-8, 11-3) surrendered the winning run in the top of the ninth inning in their Metro Suburban Conference loss. Kyle Carli and Andrew Wrona each went 2-for-4.

Hinsdale Central 10, Oak Park 6:

The Red Devils (16-11, 9-6) broke a 6-6 tie by scoring 4 runs in the top of the ninth inning to take two of three in the West Suburban Silver series. Ryan Haff homered twice and had 4 RBI. Max Peters went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI while Trenton Barnett and Mark Dykstra also drove in 2 runs.

Marist 5, Downers South 4:

The Mustangs (19-5) saw their 11-game winning streak snapped in nonconference action. Joe Lacivita and Danny Spinuzza each went 2-for-3.
