Just Move it!Challenge - 3rd Year Moving it for Education

After a long cold winter, on Saturday, April 12th, the surrounding neighborhood of South Middle School in Arlington Heights saw the sun break and energy rise with hundreds of runners and walkers moving for education in the Just Move It! Challenge. The Just Move It! Challenge is a 5k and 1 mile Run/Walk fundraising event that combines fitness and fun for the whole family.

Parents, teachers, principals, staff, and students alike spent their Saturday morning running, walking, or cheering with the students and leading by example. There were over 772 runners and walkers, representing all nine schools in Arlington Heights School District 25 and the surrounding communities. Almost 400 of that number were students. Awards were given for top finishers in adult, youth, and child age divisions. Smiles were everywhere and every child participant was greeted with a ribbon as they crossed the finish line.

The organizers of the event, ABC/25 Foundation and the Arlington Heights Council of PTAs, gratefully thank all of the many volunteers, sponsors, and participants who continue to help make this event a positive experience that showcases health and fitness to the youth and children in our community. In addition, thanks to the support of the local businesses and participants this year, the event raised approximately $16,000 for the Scholarship and Grant Fund that will benefit the teachers and students of AHSD25. Area sponsors include Northwest Community Healthcare, Arlington Teachers Association, The People's Bank of Arlington Heights, Runners High 'n Tri, Whole Foods, All About Kids Dentistry, Crossfit Arlington Heights, Benefit Express, and Franczek Radelet Attorneys and Counselors.

All net proceeds go to the Scholarship and Grant Fund, benefiting the education of AHSD25 students. The Scholarship and Grant Fund is a joint effort between the Arlington Heights Council of PTAs and ABC/25 Foundation. The Arlington Heights Council of PTAs is the PTA organization that unites all nine local unit PTAs. The Council uses proceeds from this event to award scholarships to graduating local high school seniors who attended AHSD25 schools and endeavors to recognize personal achievement. ABC/25 Foundation is a not-for-profit organization of parents, teachers, administrators, and business leaders. The Foundation will use proceeds from this event to provide funds for educational enhancements to AHSD25 classrooms through special teacher and school grants.
