Cougars romp, reach 30-win milestone

APPLETON, Wis. - The Kane County Cougars (30-16) became the first team in the Midwest League to record 30 wins this season as they picked up an 8-2 victory in the finale of a three-game series against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (21-24) at Fox Cities Stadium Wednesday night.

The Cougars jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings. Yasiel Balaguert tripled home Ben Carhart in the first, Daniel Lockhart drove across Jacob Rogers with a double in the second and Carhart got an RBI that scored Jake Hannemann in the third.

In the sixth, the Cougars loaded the bases with nobody out and Will Remillard delivered a 2-run single that extended the lead to 5-0. Lockhart added an RBI with a sacrifice fly. He doubled in the ninth and scored on Hannemann's hit. Carlos Penalver drove in Hannemann with a single.

Starter and winning pitcher Duane Underwood (1-1) worked 5 shutout innings, allowing 2 hits, with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts.

The Cougars begin a six-game homestand today when they host the Clinton LumberKings at 6:30 p.m. Paul Blackburn (4-1, 2.76) will start for the Cougars against left-hander Eddie Campbell (2-2, 5.05).
