Arlington Hts. Historical Society new Farmers Market manager

The Arlington Heights Farmers Market has a new market manager, but maintains the same balance of foods and products. The Arlington Heights Historical Society will operate the 15th annual Farmers Market in the parking lot right across the street from the museum, at the corner of Vail and Fremont, from 7:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. every Saturday, June 7 through Oct. 18.

Vendor offerings will include fresh produce, plants, vegetables, meats (including bison), olives, eggs, breads, pastries, herbs, flowers, cheese, jellies and honey. A vendor that provides knife sharpening services also will be at the market.

Founder and manager of the market, Claudia Starck, generously offered the operation of the market to the Historical Society. Starck single-handedly ran the market for 14 years as a gift to the community. She has now made another gift to her village by giving it to the Historical Society to generate funds to manage the collections and programs at the museum and at the same time, offering high-quality, nutritious food source to our community.

The Farmers Market is an ever-changing experience as new produce becomes available throughout the growing season and new events are planned through the year. This year's market will feature special shopping days each month featuring different types of products:

• June 21: Treat Week (for people and pets)

• July 19: Grill Fest, highlighting foods for your grill

• Aug. 16: Market in Bloom

• Sept. 20: Pantry Party at the Market (stock up)

• Oct. 4, 11, and 18: Yarn from the Farm

Check out vendors and events at the new website, AHFarmersMarket.com.
