NIU Law celebrates five years of 'Race NIjUdicata'

Northern Illinois University College of Law held its fifth annual Race NIjUdicata: 5K Run/Walk and BBQ on Saturday, April 12 in DeKalb.

NIU Law alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends made up the field of close to 140 racers who completed the new course, winding around a scenic path throughout the NIU campus.

Leading the pack to the finish line were the overall male and female winners of the race: DeKalb native Nathan Eagen with a time of 17:27 and the amazing 12-year-old Olivia Zaluckyj, who blazed through the course in 20:22. The top male and female law students were second-year student Logan Block with a time of 18:24 and repeat student champion and third-year student Kate Guensburg with a time of 21:00. Motion for a Speedy Finish successfully defended their crown as the top team with members Alex Geocaris (Class of 2011), Rob Hanauer ('11), Dan Kegl ('10), and Omar Salguero ('12) and an average time of 20:28.

The race's inspirational leader dean Jennifer Rosato Perea proudly led the Dean's Team to a close second place team finish this year. Joining Rosato Perea were Guensburg, alumnus Brian D. Moore (Class of 1992) and NIU Law professors Mark Cordes and Robert Jones.

New to the 5K event was the team Battle of the Bar Associations. Winnebago County Bar Association took the first place prize with team members Jessica Maveus (Class of 2005) Adam Fleming, and Paul Cain; followed by Kane County and DuPage County Bar Associations.

NIU Law sends special thanks to its generous event sponsors, wonderful volunteers, and event partners.
