Softball / Lake County roundup

Rose Ferolo delivered a 2-run single with two out in the top of the seventh inning, lifting Vernon Hills' softball team to an 11-10 win over Lakes in a North Suburban Prairie Division thriller Friday.

Vernon Hills (6-20, 4-5) had surrendered a 9-6 lead in the bottom of the sixth, as Lakes scored 3 runs.

Anna Cirone (double, RBI, 3 runs) and Dana Meline (2 runs) both went 4-for-4 for the Cougars. Winning pitcher Danielle Comitor was 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Ferolo finished with 3 RBI.

Grayslake Central 4, Huntley 2: Brandy Heraty's sixth-inning, two-out grand slam helped propel the Rams in Fox Valley Conference action.

Grayslake Central improved to 17-8 and 7-2 in the FVC.

Carmel 8, Libertyville 3: Jenny Behan returned to the Corsairs lineup after missing one game with an elbow injury and belted her 15th home run of the season in the nonconference game.

Behan also doubled, finishing 3-for-4 with 3 RBI. Carmel (15-9) also got a double and 2 RBI from Claire Petrus, while fellow sophomore Taylor Ganan went 2-for-4 and scored twice. Mia Dicara pitched all 7 innings for the win.

Libertyville (20-7) lost its fourth game in a row.

Lake Zurich 4, Wauconda 2: The host Bears scored twice in the fourth to snap a 2-2 tie in the North Suburban crossover.

McKenna Larson went 2-for-3 for Lake Zurich (19-4), and Katie Brown tripled. Carlee Parsons singled and knocked in 2 runs. Katie Malek went the distance in the circle, allowing 4 hits and striking out five.

Wauconda fell to 19-5.

Antioch 17, North Chicago 0: The Sequoits got 2-for-2 efforts from Jessica Tyrell (double, 2 RBI), Sage Keyes (2 doubles, 2 RBI), Taylor Schiltz (double, RBI) and Jillian Foote (triple, 4 RBI) in the North Suburban Prairie game.

Antioch (11-12, 5-4) also received triples from Hannah Skoog and Jessica Pedersen.

Grant 2, Crystal Lake Central 0: Caitlyn Moran pitched a complete-game 2-hitter with 7 strikeouts in the nonconference game.

McKenzie Sancken had the game-winning hit for Grant (14-8) in the sixth inning.
