Des Plaines woman charged with stealing school money

A 40-year-old -woman has been charged with stealing at least $2,000 from Stevenson School in East Maine Elementary District 63, where she worked, the Cook County Sheriff's Police said Friday.

Marisol Sukhu, of Des Plaines, has been charged with felony theft. She was released on her own recognizance during her court appearance Thursday at the Skokie courthouse.

The investigation began April 21 after officials from Adlai E. Stevenson Elementary School, 9000 Capital Drive, Des Plaines, contacted sheriff's detectives about a theft of funds.

Detectives believe that from December 2013 to April 2014, Sukhu took about $2,000 in registration fees that parents paid to the school. At the time, Sukhu was working there as an administrative assistant.

Detectives also learned she paid some of the money back after school and District 63 officials confronted her about the missing funds, sheriff's police said.

Sukhu was charged on Wednesday, May 7, and was taken into custody.

Her next court date is scheduled for June 10 at the Skokie courthouse.
