'Run for the Lights' 10K to light up S. Elgin High stadium

The South Elgin High School Booster Club is sponsoring the inaugural "Run for the Lights" 10K, 5K, 2x5 relay, and family fun walk on Saturday, June 14, in South Elgin.

The runs will be held on a flat, fast course. The course will be starting and finishing at the high school track and parking lot, 760 E. Main St.

The course is USATF certified, so go after that 5K or 10K personal best. The course is approximately three-quarter roads, and one-quarter paved jogging path. The 2x5 relay is a fun way to partner with another runner.

The course will consist of a 5K loop with the 5K run/walk completing one loop, 10K run two loops, and the relay will have each partner running one loop.

All proceeds will go directly toward purchasing lights for the high school stadium.

Register for the race online at www.runforlights.com. T-shirts are guaranteed to all participants who have registered before June 1.

Cost for the Fun Run is $10 per person.

Early bird registration continues through Friday, May 16, and includes a T-shirt. Cost is $30 for the 5K and 10K and $60 per team for the relay.

Regular registration, which includes a T-shirt, will be Saturday, May 17, to Saturday, May 31. Cost is $35 for the 5K and 10K and $70 per team for the relay.

Starting Sunday, June 1, the late registration fees will be $40 for the 5K and 10K, and $80 per relay team.

Day-of registration will be cash only. Cost is $40 for the 5K, $45 for the 10K and $80 per relay team.

There will be gift certificates or prizes from Dick Pond running store to the top overall male and female in the open 10K race. Trophies to the top 3 individual placers for 5K, 10K, and top three relay teams.

There will be post-race festivities in the stadium near the finish line. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
