Illinois spends $10.5M to fix bridge over Des Plaines River
The state of Illinois is providing $10.5 million for a new Des Plaines River bridge and improvements at South Suburban College in South Holland.
Gov. Pat Quinn announced the state grants Thursday.
The Chicago Democrat says the new bridge over the Des Plaines River will make travel safer in River Forest, Melrose Park and Elmwood Park. The bridge will be replaced where North Avenue, also known as Route 64, crosses the river.
The money for South Suburban College will go toward a roof replacement project.
The funds come from a $31 billion capital construction plan the Illinois Legislature approved shortly after Quinn won his first full term.
It's paid for through video gambling and increased taxes on liquor, candy and other products.
