School bus company plans 300+ layoffs

SPRINGFIELD — A Joliet-based company that provides school-bus services plans to lay off more than 300 employees by the end of June.

According to notices filed by Illinois Central School Bus with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, 330 people will be laid off at four locations due to a lost contract.

The company plans to lay off 106 people in University Park, 76 people in Carbondale, 78 people in Mount Prospect and 70 people in Bartonville, near Peoria.

The notices do not provide details about the jobs or the lost contract. The company did not immediately return a telephone message Wednesday seeking comment.

The state's Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification requires companies to give the state advance notice before mass layoffs.
