Baseball: Fox Valley roundup Tuesday, May 6

South Elgin 14, Neuqua Valley 6: Five Storm players had 2 hits each and 9 reached base as 14 runs came across on 14 hits in an Upstate Eight Valley win. South Elgin (10-7, 8-5) scored 3 in the first, 4 in the second and 5 in the third as Jared Kramer (3-for-5) and Justin Bryski drove in 2 RBI and Dane Toppel (RBI), Nick Menken, Antonio Danesi (2 RBI) and Zach Filippo each had 2 hits.

Cary-Grove 6, Dundee-Crown 2: The Trojans (14-8, 8-4) erased a 2-0 Chargers' lead with 3 in the fourth inning thanks to Jason Barrett's leadoff walk and consecutive RBI hits by Andrew Splitt and George Hartke for the Fox Valley Conference Valley win. Splitt also scored on an error in the inning and C-G tacked on insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings. C-G's Larkin Hanselmann earned the win by going 4 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 3 hits with 1 strikeout and 5 walks. Nick Franz managed a 3-inning save. Zach Girard and Ricky Alvarado each had RBI in the loss for D-C (10-11, 7-5).

Crystal Lake South 3, Grayslake Central 1: Ryan Wilkening went the distance for the Gators (9-9, 6-6) in a FVC crossover win in Crystal Lake. Wilkening (2-1) gave up 1 earned run on 5 hits, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. CLS scored all 3 runs in the third after trailing 1-0 in the first. Casey Oliver delivered an RBI double in the third along with Paul Wille's RBI single. Wille and Garrett Bright each had 1 hit and 1 stolen base.

Huntley 12, McHenry 5: The Red Raiders (16-4-1, 9-2) pushed their lead to 6 in third and never looked back in an FVC Valley win over the Warriors. Mark Skonieczny (3-for-3, 2 R, RBI), Matt Sullivan (2-for-2, 3 R, RBI), Troy Cantu (3-for-4, 2 R, 3 RBI) and Dillion Dell'Aquila all doubled and Adam Kalish pitched 6 strong innings of 2-hit baseball, giving up 1 earned run on 1 walk and 6 strikeouts.

Hampshire 5, Crystal Lake Central 3: With 3 in the first and 2 in the third, the Whip-Purs (8-12, 5-10) made 5 runs hold up in an FVC Fox win. Michael Kruse was 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored, an RBI and a walk. Troy Schramm and Brandon Bowen cranked out 2 hits each and Dillion Kuhn drove in 2 runs. Kuhn earned the win on the mound with a line of 7 hits on 3 runs (2 earned) with 3 walks and 1 strikeout in 5 innings. Kyle Rutkowski earned the save.

Waubonsie Valley 4, Bartlett 2: The Hawks (8-12, 7-10) watched a 2-1 lead slip away in the sixth as Waubonsie crossed 3 runs on 3-straight hits in the top half of a UEC Valley comeback win. Jake Baruttia went 2-for-4 and accounted for half of Bartlett's hits.

Batavia 5, Elgin 0: The Maroons (7-13, 5-12) mustered just 2 hits from Kiko Mari and Ryan Sitter in a UEC River loss in Elgin. Jacob Piechota didn't allow a hit in his 5 innings pitched for the Bulldogs. He walked 2 and struck out 8 Maroons while Jon Nelson (2-4) got taxed for 5 earned runs on 9 hits, 3 walks and 2 strikeouts in 7 innings for Elgin.

Geneva 8, Larkin 4: The Vikings jumped out to an 8-run lead in the fourth of a UEC River loss for the Royals (8-14, 4-10). Larkin rallied with 2 runs in each the fifth and sixth and Rob Bond and Andrew Chimola had 2 hits and an RBI each.
