Des Plaines second-grader wins handwriting contest

A second-grader at Iroquois Community School in Des Plaines has won a state grade-level handwriting contest and will now have the chance to compete for a national title.

Adam Aszurkiewicz was one of 300,000 students to participate in the competition, sponsored by Zaner-Bloser, an education publisher. He received a medallion, and his school received a $200 coupon, according to a Des Plaines Elementary District 62 news release.

He is now eligible to complete for a grand national champion title.
