Hersey rolls in own tournament

Hersey produced a perfect 5-0 run through its own boys volleyball invitational Saturday to improve to 18-3 overall.

The Huskies' toughest test came against York in a 27-25, 23-25, 15-11 decision. The Huskies topped third-place St. Viator 25-16, 25-18.

Mike Fuerst (36 kills), Bart Migus (27) and Matt Torvik led the attack for the Huskies.

Fuerst had 11 blocks and Jordan Saeed had 8, Fotis Christacos led the way with 74 digs and Torvik (12 aces) and Kevin Messer (7) excelled at the service line.

• Rolling Meadows (6-13) finished 2-3 on Saturday in tournament play at Libertyville, getting wins against Lakeview twice and losses to Oak Forest, Libertyville and Highland Park.

Tom Srnak (24 kills) and Tommy Mruphy (22) led the attack for Meadows, while Srnak had 35 digs, Jose Cruz had 30 and Murphy had 29.
