Knox College sex discrimination claim investigated

GALESBURG - The U.S. Department of Education is investigating allegations of sex discrimination at Knox College in western Illinois.

Knox President Teresa Amott said in a campus-wide email Wednesday that the investigation began in January.

It involves a report of alleged sexual misconduct from October, though the email gave no details. College spokeswoman Megan Scott said she could not reveal specifics.

Officials with the Education Department's Office for Civil Rights will visit the Galesburg campus the week of May 19 to interview students.

Scott says the college was informed of the investigation in January and has been cooperating.
